7 November 2016: Mathematical UdeC are in top 20 of national scientific production
Researchers have completed about 170 publications since 2008 to date.

Four researchers at the University of Concepción among the 20 mathematicians with higher productivity nationwide, according Dataciencia. The recently launched Conicyt platform brings the indicators of scientific productivity and the pulse of the development of the activity to the reach of institutions and the community. The basis of articles indexed in Web of Science (WOS) between 2008 and November 2 collecting Dataciencia shows clearly the prolific work of a group of researchers in the field of Numerical Analysis of Partial Differential Equations (EDP) of the Research Center Mathematical engineering, CI²MA, University of Concepcion.

Gabriel Gatica , director of CI²MA, appears in the third place ranking nationally, is PhD in mathematics from the University of Delaware (USA), and his work is focused on the mathematical and numerical analysis of various non - linear models Linear equations, called Partial Differential Equations, that arise in Physics and Engineering Sciences, mainly in areas such as solids mechanics and fluid mechanics. The applicability of Gatica's studies is very varied, including in particular: transport and sedimentation of pollutants in the subsoil; Modeling of blood flow in the arteries; Registration of medical images; And cooling systems for electronic devices, among other applications.

"Whoever has four researchers of our group in this ranking Conicyt, even beating some national awards of Sciences, responds to the high productivity that we have achieved and reflects the great scientific development achieved our area UdeC in the recent decades , "explains the director of CI²MA.

In the fifth payroll figure CI²MA deputy director, Raimund Bürger, who holds a Ph.D. and Habilitation at the University of Stuttgart (Germany) and has developed his research career also around the mathematical and numerical analysis of partial differential equations. His research has a high applicability potential in areas such as the mining industry, vehicular traffic planning, mathematical biology and wastewater treatment, among others.

"Our research has an impact on the PhD Program, as the high level of productivity Group Numerical Analysis has attracted students from Chilean doctoral and six Latin American countries who are preparing their thesis, or wishto do in this area. They can also benefit from a wide network of contacts with partners we have in 20 countries around the world , "he stressed also the director of the PhD Program in Applied Sciences majoring in Mathematical Engineering of the University of Colima.

Rodolfo Rodríguez, Doctor in Mathematics from the National University of La Plata (Argentina), and who ranks in tenth place of the ranking, has addressed problems related to vibrations of structures, acoustic, interaction between fluids and structures, and electromagnetism, between others. The methods developed by this researcher have been applied, for example, to the design of electrodes in the silicon industry, to electroencology in the field of medicine, and to the development of noise control techniques for the interior of passenger vehicles.

Finally, Mauricio Sepúlveda, located at number eighteen in the ranking, is Doctor in Mathematics from Ecole Polytechnique in Paris (France), specialist in numerical methods for partial differential equations. In particular, some of its results have to do with thermoviscoelasticity, population dynamics, inverse problems for conservation laws, and transport in porous media, among others, which have applications in various areas of engineering, such as chemical processes And sedimentation models. On the subject of population dynamics, for example, it has solved problems of disease transmission among populations and contaminated environments.
